2024 practical guide to start patients on low-carb therapies
We celebrate a practice-changing publication, Low-Carbohydrate and Ketogenic Dietary Patterns for Type 2 Diabetes Management, in Federal Practitioner for January, 2024.
The Federal Practitioner’s wide-reach includes clinicians within the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, and the Public Health Service The later includes NIH, FDA, CDC, Indian Health Services, and Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration.
This guide will make it easier for clinicians in these large organizations to prescribe therapeutic low-carbohydrate diets for their patients. It also gives an overview of the published literature and presents a case study. It is even the featured cover article on the 40th anniversary issue, with “Does Keto hold promise for T2DM?” With this publication, Therapeutic Carbohydrate Reduction is presented to clinicians who serve veterans, active service members, tribal members, and prisoners.

Tremendous volunteerism serving our veterans who have all served us
After watching the Nutrition Coalition struggle to change the USDA dietary guidelines, Metabolic Multiplier pulled together a military and veterans team to strategize supporting those federal practitioners. We also brought in expertise on how other major research projects have gotten funded with a former DARPA project manager, retired nuclear submarine captain, veterans, & practitioners.
All of the attendees were gracious enough to attend after just a cold-email or having met me briefly at a conference! Their commitment to those who serve is palpable and appreciated.
Fulfilling a dream to help veterans
Bringing Therapeutic Carbohydrate Reduction into the published literature, fulfills a dream for their author, Adele Hite, RD, PhD, MPH. One of her dying wishes was our continuing her work to bring this treatment modality to those who serve.
